The Tin Forest

Listen to Ash and Ember: Songs from Southwest Glasgow

The Tin Forest Southwest composer and musician, John Kielty, has been collecting stories and writing songs in Southwest Glasgow since January 2014.

John’s visited Rosshall Academy, Lourdes Secondary, Craigton Primary Scool, Sandwood Primary School, Our Lady of the Rosary Primary and St Georges Primary School, Penilee.

John’s been prompted by true stories about spitfires and striking workers. He’s been stirred by tall tales of spooks and sausage suppers. He’s been inspired by the memories of an ex-Rolls Royce Hillington worker and challenged to create a love song at Penilee Community Centre.

With a horse and cart, John took to the Southwest streets as the Rag and Bone man blowing his bugle, singing his songs and collecting the memories and wishes of the people who live, work and dream in this corner of our city.

The result is ten original songs inspired by The Tin Forest and created with and for the people of Southwest Glasgow and beyond.
